About the TAC Rapid Notification System

Do you like incident response and/or data analysis? Do you frequently say to yourself, "I knew about that last week", when you read a security alert

The TAC is always on the lookout for volunteer analysts and incident handlers. TAC volunteers get access to vulnerability and threat feeds and participate in exclusive security discussions that help shape the security posture of the industry.

Additionally, time spent as a TAC volunteer may qualify as CPEs for certifications you hold or for which you aspire.

Desired qualifications include:

Interest and Curiosity

Interest and experience in analyzing emerging threat and vulnerability information from multiple sources.

Time Commitment

Ability to commit to a minimum of four hours' coverage per week (exceptions may be made to accommodate schedules).

Keeping Secrets

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information where necessary.

Overview
As a volunteer handler in the Tactical Analysis Center (TAC), you should be able to write about breaking events in a timely manner. At the TAC, we value timeliness over completeness as we are able to bring post-notification analysis resources to bear that can flush out the details. There is no minimum post count requirement, though we are looking for volunteers who are generally able to average at least one short post per week.

In addition to posting on breaking news items you believe are of interest, you are encouraged to also create posts on tips and tricks that relate to security issues facing the industry.

Resources
TAC volunteers will be provided access to a subset of TAC resources which can aid you in identifying and vetting relevant information. These resources are to only be used in the course of activity you perform on behalf of the TAC. Misuse of these resources will result in the immediate revocation of your volunteer status and may include other corrective steps. In addition to TAC provided resources, you are encouraged to use any available public/open information source in your analysis.

Confidentiality
Trust is critical to the success of the TAC. As a volunteer handler you will obtain information and be part of conversations that are, and must remain, non-public. You will be expected to exercise discretion in the use of such information, and protect the confidentiality of such information. In many cases information presented to you will include protective markings and/or specific handling requirements. You are expected to respect and abide by such requirements at all times.

Attribution
All TAC publications will be attributed to the TAC as an entity. Individual volunteer content authors may choose to also be attributed at their discretion. Company or organizational information for volunteer handlers will not be included in attributions except by prior agreement and approval. All posts must be original works and, when external resources are referenced, they must be clearly sourced. Volunteer handler posts will be reviewed by TAC staff prior to publication.
